Classical Disorders of Aromatic Amino Acid Metabolism Revisited: Phenylketonuria, Tyrosinaemia, Alkaptonuria
Dear colleagues and friends,
it is my pleasure to invite you to the 38th Annual Meeting of APS (now GfAS) which is held in Kassel and focuses on different aspects of disorders in aromatic amino acid metabolism. These disorders, like Phenylketonuria, Alkaptonuria and Hepatorenal Tyrosinaemia belong to the long-known ‘classical’ inborn errors of metabolism. Nevertheless, the pathophysiology of these disorders is incompletely understood, new aspects of pathophysiological processes underlying these diseases will be presented. There are new and novel therapeutic options available for the benefit of patients suffering from these disorders. Our international faculty including clinicians, nutritional specialists and scientists will discuss these therapies. Data on newborn screening for tyrosinaemia in Germany and its impact on outcome will be shown. Recently, guidelines were developed for both PKU and tyrosinaemia, which will be presented. There is considerable overlap with other subspecialties like neuropaediatrics and hepatology, which makes this meeting an interdisciplinary event.
You are welcome to submit abstracts for ‘free communications’ and posters spanning the entire field of metabolism.
The meeting is preceded by a symposium for younger colleagues under the auspices of ‘Young Metabolic Medicine’ who have also organised a session within the main programme of this meeting.
I look forward meeting you in Kassel soon.
Yours sincerely
Anibh Das
